One of the first things I learned about design were the principles. In high school, I had a phenomenal teacher for my Visual Communications class. Our first project dealt with representing six principles of design through the use of pictographs. Of course, these had to be done by hand. Not only were we being challenged creatively, but our craft was being put to the test. Till this day, that may be the most important project I have ever done.
I find this senior thesis project by Efil Turk, a student at the Dokuz Eylul University of Fine Arts, to be a fun and interesting representation of the design principles. Rather than designing digitally, Efil has designed each principle using 3-D cut paper and creating a collage. Here are the 10 principles:
